Registration forthcoming

We are preparing to register with Caltech for the 2026-27 academic year.

Caltech Effective Altruism

Think clearly.
Do more good.

A student community exploring where our time, skills, and resources can do the most good.

Abstract scientific atlas of branching paths, contour fields, and cellular forms

Good intentions deserve good methods.

Effective altruism asks how evidence, open inquiry, and moral concern can guide real choices. It is a question to investigate, not a conclusion you must accept.

Scale

How many lives or how much well-being could an effort affect?

Neglectedness

Where might additional attention or resources matter most?

Tractability

What evidence suggests that progress is possible?

Broader than one cause.

AI matters, but an EA community can examine many ways to improve the world.

Global health

Compare interventions that can improve health and reduce preventable suffering across the world.

Animal welfare

Examine neglected ways to improve the lives of farmed and wild animals.

Biosecurity

Study practical ways to reduce biological risks and strengthen preparedness.

AI and emerging technology

Explore governance, technical safety, and the social effects of powerful technologies.

Climate and resilience

Investigate underused approaches to climate risk, energy, and adaptation.

Evidence-based giving

Learn how research can inform charitable choices without reducing values to a single score.

A complementary space for broad inquiry.

Caltech already has students focused on AI alignment. CITEA can connect that conversation with global health, animal welfare, biosecurity, philanthropy, careers, and other cause areas.

The aim is not to prescribe a cause or ideology. It is to make important questions easier to examine together.

What we are building

Start with a small, serious group.

Registration is forthcoming. We are assembling interested students, officers, an eligible advisor, and the materials needed for Caltech review.

Learn together

Reading groups and discussions that welcome disagreement and changing one's mind.

Choose deliberately

Career and giving workshops grounded in evidence, uncertainty, and personal fit.

Build usefully

Student-led research, projects, and collaborations shaped by member interest.
